Potential E-Mail Problems

Spam Filter

Occasionally, the spam filter incorrectly labels non-spam e-mail messages as spam. This seems to be particularly true for some messages sent from Asia or with some basis in Asian character sets. Sometimes spam gets through the filter, and in deleting such spam quickly, I could inadvertently delete something else. The exact criteria for spam may change as well.

AOL

From time to time, I have some difficulty sending e-mail to AOL accounts from an address ending in albany.edu. Some information is here (a link provided by AOL when it has returned some e-mail). (Please note this link is to a page not under my control.) If you send me e-mail from an AOL e-mail address, I may be unable to respond to that e-mail address although I have had some times when I've sent e-mail to an AOL e-mail address successfully. Sometimes when mail does go through, I get messages saying that it had not been delivered for over 4 hours since I sent it.

People affiliated with the University at Albany may wish to use an account at the university. For more information, check the ITS Web page.

The Human Factor

There are periods (e.g. vacation) when I am away not checking e-mail. Even when I'm not away, it is always possible for me to forget to respond to something. Follow-ups via e-mail or telephone will help with the latter.
