I also have a spam filter for my e-mail. It is conceivable that messages can be mislabeled as spam and not read.
Views expressed on this Web site do not necessarily represent the views of New York State, the State University of New York, or the University at Albany. For that matter, the views of these organizations do not necessarily represent the views of the individual maintaining these pages.
Following links may lead to material developed in work supported by the National Science Foundation under various grants or centers. Similar statements probably apply to grants of other organizations.
E-mail snafus where I have no control can happen. I am not responsible for such snafus.
I have not set up my Web site to collect personal information (except for material sent via e-mail under links that send me such e-mail). I have not even set up a counter (unless things change and I fail to update this statement). However, external links may refer to pages with different policies. Furthermore, depending on how things are set up at various places, other people might collect information about visits to my site.
It is possible that computer viruses or worms may send e-mails claiming to be from me. Such computer scum may use return addresses that do not reflect the true sender. Indeed, I have received messages which lead me to believe this has happened. I am not responsible for messages where my address is used without my permission as a return address. I urge caution when examining e-mail claiming to be from me and having an attachment - especially if such e-mail is unexpected and does not seem reasonable.
At this time, I do not anticipate placing music or movies on my Web pages. In some cases, issues of copyright infringement may arise from downloading music or movie files from the Internet, and sometimes people may set up programs which place such files on the Internet without realizing fully either the consequences or what the programs do. Furthermore such material can take up lots of storage space and lots of bandwidth. If you think you have found music or movies on my Web pages, then there are a few possibilities. One possibility is that they are not on my Web pages. Another possibility is that they were placed there without my permission. In any case, be cautious.
If you send me e-mail, I wish to discourage where possible sending Social Security numbers as generally e-mail is not secure. Furthermore, since the summer of 2003, student ID numbers here are generally separate from Social Security numbers.
These pages contain links to sources beyond my control as the individual maintaining these pages, and these sources contain many further external links. Thus the individual maintaining these pages can not guarantee that following these links will avoid materials with cookies, inaccuarate mathematics, undesirable materials, materials posted without permission of appropriate copyright owners, broken links, or material harmful to children.
Also some of the material on these pages contains specialized mathematical work which will be difficult to understand without appropriate mathematical background. (This is not material that would be understood by your typical 5-year old!)
Also be advised that excessive browsing may be hazardous to the time you have to spend on other activities. This statement does not necessarily reflect a careful scientifically designed experiment or statistically sound observational study, but hopefully it reflects common sense! If you have read all this statement, then you may well be browsing excessively!
