CAPITAL REGION ALGEBRA/NUMBER THEORY SEMINAR Speaker: Alex Tchernev, Univ. at Albany Time: Wednesday, November 3, at 4:30pm Place: Earth Sciences Bldg. 152A, Univ. at Albany Title: LCM-lattice and Betti numbers of monomial ideals Abstract: Let I be an ideal generated by monomials in a polynomial ring R. The LCM-lattice L of I was introduced in work of Gasharov, Peeva, and Welker, who show that the minimal free resolution of I is completely determined by the isomorphism class of the lattice L. In this talk we will recall the definition of L, and we will show how to compute the Betti numbers of I from the combinatorial structure of the lattice L. The talk will be acessible to graduate students. Refreshments at 4:15 pm in ES 152.
