CAPITAL REGION ALGEBRA/NUMBER THEORY SEMINAR Speaker: Professor Hara Charalambous, Univ. at Albany Time: Wednesday, May 5, at 4:30pm Place: Earth Sciences Bldg. ES 143, Univ. at Albany Title: Stable monomial modules (Note: This is the last CRANTS talk for this semester, and as is our tradition, we plan to go for dinner afterwards. Please plan to join us. ) Abstract: Stable monomial ideals are characterized by the property that whenever the monomial w is in the ideal and m is the largest index of a variable that divides w then w x_i/x_m is also in the ideal. This category of ideals includes the lexicographic ideals and the Borel-fixed ideals. The resolution of these ideals was given by Eliahou-Kervaire in 1987 and the ideals have been widely studied and used ever since. We will discuss the generalization to monomial modules. Refreshments at 4:15 pm in ES 152.
