CAPITAL REGION ALGEBRA/NUMBER THEORY SEMINAR Speaker: Professor Lindsay Childs, Univ. at Albany Time: Wednesday, April 28, at 4:30pm Place: Bailey Hall 106, Union College Title: Hopf Galois structures on Galois extensions of fields Abstract: Given a Galois extension L/K of fields with Galois group G, there may be K-Hopf algebras H other than KG that act on L and make L/K a Hopf Galois extension. We will discuss some recent work on counting the number of Hopf Galois structures on a Galois extension L/K. In particular, when the Galois group G is an elementary abelian p-group, it was known that if |G| = p, resp. p^2, there are one, resp. p^2 Hopf Galois structures. We find a lower bound when |G| = p^n and p>n. Refreshments at 4:15 pm in Bailey Hall 204.
